Roxanne retiring at end of June
Dear CS graduate students, I have told many of you this individually, but it is with mixed emotions that I want to let you all know that I will be retiring at the end of June. My last day will be June 30, although I will be taking a couple of days off that last week, because my sons will all be in town. I will be 67 later this month, and I feel like it is time to start the next chapter of my life. Many of you know that I love the outdoors and have studied Natural Resources both undergrad and a Masters at Virginia Tech, so I plan to volunteer with an environmental non-profit to give talks about climate change. I also plan to do more hiking (especially in state and national parks!), swimming and traveling in general. And, I look forward to more time visiting with family and friends. The person who will replace me as the Program Coordinator for CS MS & PhD students in the NCR is Suzanne Boone, copied on this email (suzannejb@vt.edu ). Suzanne comes to us from the University of Cambridge in England. I can tell already that she will be an enthusiastic and hard worker for the NCR CS MS & PhD students. I am busily training Suzanne this month and also training the person who will take over my duties for the ECE department in the NCR. I will keep this email address in case you want to keep in touch, although requests for information or help should be directed to Suzanne after June 30. She will be able to check in with me after June 30th if needed, and also I’m sure will receive help from Sharon and Drs. Mayo and Shaffer. I know the department will be in good hands. J I will do my best to attend future Commencement ceremonies, because I still want to see the NCR students graduate. J Good luck in pursuing your degrees! It is a lot of hard work, but it will be worth it in the end.
