The seminar will be from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Monday, February 26, 2018. This presentation will draw on Tyson’s rich background as an intelligence officer and cyber strategist for the US Navy before coming to the NSC. This will be the 32st session in a seminar series sponsored by the Intelligence Advanced Research Projects Activity (IARPA) on “Science, Intelligence and Security.” As with previous sessions, the seminar will be held at the Virginia Tech Research Center, 900 North Glebe Road, Arlington, Virginia. Parking is available in the basement of the building. The building is walking distance from the "Ballston/MU" station on the Orange/Silver Line. Through January of 2017, Tyson led the US Fleet Cyber Command Commander's Innovation Group. Before that he was a pilot member of the Chief of Naval Operations Rapid Innovation Cell (CRIC), where he led groundbreaking, interagency cyber security research. Previously, he served as both a naval intelligence and surface warfare officer supporting operations in the African, European, and Pacific theatres. Tyson has a Bachelor's of Science degree in information technology and English from the U.S. Naval Academy, a Master's of Science degree in cyber security from the University of Maryland University College, as well as related diplomas and certifications from Old Dominion University, the North China Institute of Science and Technology, the Defense Cyber Investigations Training Academy, and the Escal Institute of Advanced Technologies (SANS). We expect Tyson to speak for about 30 minutes and then take questions for another 45 minutes. He will be available for an informal discussion after his presentation, which is strictly off-the-record and not for attribution. Please submit your online RSVP if you wish to attend. He writes regularly for WIRED, Bloomberg BusinessWeek, and other publications. We expect Garrett to speak for about 30 minutes and then take questions for another 45 minutes.
