Hello! I am the Associate Department Head for Graduate Studies in the
CS Department at Virginia Tech. I am sending you this message because you
have been admitted to the Department of Computer Science at Virginia Tech
for Spring 2022.
If you are declining admission to our department, then please let me know
so that I can remove you from the listserv and spare your mailbox in
future. Please also let the Graduate School know by declining admission at
the application portal.
Otherwise, welcome to our Department! I look forward to meeting you in
January. In the coming weeks, we will be sending you lots of email about
things like registering for Spring classes, connecting to a research
advisor if you are in the MS or PhD programs, and other issues related to
starting your program. But for now, here are a few things that I ask you to
do right away, as needed.
*Getting Started:* Please take a look at the Grad School's "Getting
Started" guide:
https://graduateschool.vt.edu/admissions/getting-started-as-a-student.html
*Accepting Admission:* If you have not officially accepted admission, but
do intend to join the program, then please inform the Grad School at the
application portal.
*Email (get your PID):* If you have not already done so, then please get
your Virginia Tech PID (your email address). If the application system
knows that you have a PID, then I will have used that when I registered you
to this listserv. If you were sent this email via another address, then our
system does not know about your PID. We want to get you converted to
your PID as quickly as possible. This is how all official communication
from the university and our department will come.
*Requesting a GTA:* If you are in the MS or PhD program, and would like to
be considered for a GTA, then you should go to
https://hosting.cs.vt.edu/gta/ and fill out the survey. You should do this
even if you were given a promise of a GTA when you were admitted. We still
need the survey form to know what courses you can be assigned to. If you
are an MEng student, then please do not fill out the survey. We will not
consider MEng students for a GTA position.
