Hi everyone,
I hope you all had a safe and relaxing summer. As it’s approaching the start of our new semester, I want to announce the following updates and plans:
(1) First, let’s welcome our new members, Zhiyang Xu (new PhD), Minqian Liu (new PhD), Indrajeet Kumar Mishra (Jeet) (a second-year part-time PhD) and Sai Gurrapu (MS). Given such a special pandemic, I’m very excited and grateful to have you guys successfully join the lab and start a new journey with me. Both Zhiyang and Minqian have very rich research experience and are among the best PhD candidates I have ever seen. Jeet has been working with me for the whole summer and made significant progress on our research project, and the same for Sai. I hope we all can grow together over the next years and am sure you will be very successful.
(2) As you may have noticed, we will be back to campus starting from next week but everyone is required to wear a mask all the time in the lab or class. I hope everyone can respect this policy to make sure we are safe. My office is in Torgersen 3160E. I have assigned a seat to each PhD student in Torgersen 3160. For MS students and undergraduates, please feel free to let me know if you also want to get a seat.
(3) Similar as before, we will have a weekly group meeting, a weekly reading discussion meeting, and a one-on-one meeting for each PhD and MS student. Please send me your schedule within next week so that I can schedule the meetings starting from the 2nd week. I hope we can make all these meetings in person, at least for the ones who are in Blacksburg, but please feel free to send me any concerns or suggestions. For undergraduates, please also feel free to send me your schedule if you plan to join the meetings and want to have a one-on-one meeting with me.
(4) Another high call: we need to develop a more professional website for our lab (the current one is based on my poor HTML skills). Please let me know if you are familiar with developing websites. All PhD students are required to have a personal academia website and a google scholar page so that you will have visibility to the research community.
I’m very looking forward to this Fall, and wish everyone can stay safe and healthy. Please do feel free to send me any concerns, comments or suggestions.
Best wishes,
