Dear Professor Cal Ribbens,
Would the following events be of interest to your department’s faculty, interns, and students?
Competition: Smoky Mountain Conference Data Challenge 2022
Summer 2022
This data analytics competition provides an opportunity to tackle scientific data challenges that come from eminent datasets related to ORNL, industry, and academia. These datasets come from scientific simulations and instruments in physical and chemical sciences, electron microscopy, bioinformatics, engineering, materials science, neutron sources, urban development, and other areas, and will have open research questions and tasks for participants to solve. Competitors have untill July 7 to solve one of the challenges and write a paper about their approach. Selected solutions to these challenges will be published in the SMC2022 proceedings in a CCIS Springer volume. Career researchers and students compete in different categories. All are welcome to take the challenge.
Challenge 1: Machine Learning approaches to High Throughput Phenotyping<https://smc-datachallenge.ornl.gov/ch1_phenotyping/>

Webinar: How to be a Great Mentor (Mentees Welcome)
May 24 1:00-2:15 EDT
Mentoring is vital to developing and retaining a diverse, talented, and enabled workforce. Therefore, the first session of the Exascale Computing Project (ECP) HPC-Workforce Development Webinar series will feature a panel of experienced mentors drawn from High-Performance Computing (HPC) and STEM related careers, who will discuss tips for building the important mentor/mentee relationship and best practices in mentoring. They will share what they have learned from their mentees about developing, networking, and sponsoring the next generation of HPC and STEM professionals. All are welcome to join. This Webinar will be served on Zoom.
To register, get joining information, and see the list of Panelists see: https://www.exascaleproject.org/event/mentor/
Please pass these events to any colleagues or students who may benefit.

Good evening,
Just a friendly reminder, I will be out of the office, starting next
Wednesday (Wednesday, May 25th -- Tuesday, May 31st). Anything you need
