FOLLOWUP: FACULTY MEETING discussion on graduating MEng student to feature in VT News

Following up on what we discussed at the faculty meeting on Friday, we are working with the College of Engineering to find a MEng student from the Sanghani Center to recommend to VT News for a graduation feature. Regarding one of the questions that came up — I have contacted the VT News editor and learned that because the graduation profiles are tied to a specific set of ceremonies (these students are graduating on this specific weekend), the student must be eligible to graduate at Fall commencement Here are some other criteria: The student should have a compelling story — overcome an obstacle or struggled with something during their time with us that they have learned from or turned to a good use. They could have accepted a big-deal job for after graduation, started their own company, etc. Or they could just have a story that makes you think, "Wow!" Bonus points if they are an in-state student or have benefitted from scholarships/fellowships, donor support, or have interned or worked with an important industry or community partner. OSP Thanksgiving Holiday Break /NSF Security Training Reminder

Hello everyone, IMPORTANT — As of 10/10/25, NSF began requiring that all key personnel on a proposal have Research Security Training BEFORE submitting a proposal: NSF Research Security Training. Here is the link: https://profdev.tlos.vt.edu/browse/researchdiscovery/courses/oesrc-osp-01 Please do this NOW before submitting any NSF proposal. Do this now and you will not need to do this again until next year. This is the OSP Thanksgiving Break schedule -- VT is closed from 11/26-11/28 and will reopen on 12/1. Please have all proposals due during this time to OSP and ready to submit by 9:00 a.m. on 11/24. I will be out of the office starting 11/24, if you need your proposals submitted on 11/24, please let me know in advance and I will make arrangements for you. NSF Research Security Training

Good afternoon, everyone, Not sure if you have already received this, just want to ensure you are aware of the following: "Beginning on October 10th, NSF now requires PIs/CoPIs to complete research security training. This should be completed prior to submission. Someone in OSP has been tasked with keeping track of this, so your PreAward Associate can see a list of those who have completed the training." Here is the link to access the training: https://profdev.tlos.vt.edu/browse/researchdiscovery/courses/oesrc-osp-01 "Your completion of this training meets the federal requirement for a 12-month period, after which you will be required to take Research Security Refresher Training if you wish to continue proposing to or participating in federally-sponsored research.” You will need to take it once a year.
