Subject: NASA Paid PhD Fellowship Opportunity in Applied ML, NLP, and Text Classification Research
Dear Dr. Fox,
My name is Brandon Ruffridge. I work for NASA, and I’m leading a distributed team that is building PeTaLhttps://github.com/nasa-petal (the Periodic Table of Life), an open source artificial intelligence (AI) design tool that leverages data and information from nature and technology to advance biomimicry research and development.
We are seeking a first or second year PhD student to participate in a 3 year paid research grant. We are looking for expertise in the field of machine learning and especially natural language processing and text classification. Our current area of focus is on developing a text classification algorithm that takes research papers as input and categorizes them using our predefined biomimetic taxonomy. This is a space with little training data available so novel approaches may be required.
For more information about this opportunity and how to apply, please direct qualified, interested students to the attached, “MSI Fellowships Guide 2021.pdf”. Proposals are due May 24, 2021.
Thank you for your consideration,
Brandon Ruffridge
