[Sysreading] Fwd: Internship opportunities at Uber Programming Systems Group
by Changhee Jung 04 Dec '18

04 Dec '18
FYI ---------- Forwarded message --------- From: Milind Chabbi <milind(a)uber.com> Date: Tue, Dec 4, 2018 at 6:02 PM Subject: Internship opportunities at Uber Programming Systems Group To: <chjung(a)cs.vt.edu> Dear Changhee, My team at Uber is doing research into various areas of Programming Languages in the context of Uber’s technology stack and we are currently looking for Ph.D. students that would be interested to help us with some interesting projects during 2019 summer internships. Our team is aiming to build tools to improve performance, reliability, and developer productivity across a variety of languages, including Java (mobile and backend), Swift, and Go. The work includes static and dynamic analysis, compiler optimizations as well as performance evaluation and tooling work at the language runtime and OS system levels. We mostly work on open source projects - recent examples include the NullAway ( https://github.com/uber/NullAway), RxThreadEffectChecker ( https://github.com/uber-research/RxThreadEffectChecker), and Nanoscope ( https://github.com/uber/nanoscope/wiki/Trace-Extensions). These tools are, of course, also broadly used internally at Uber. While our team has been established only recently, its members are experienced researchers, and our interns have been quite successful in publishing results of their summer internship research, including ASE 2018 ( https://arxiv.org/pdf/1808.02998.pdf) and VMIL 2018 ( http://t.uber.com/nanoscope_paper) publications, with a few more papers currently in the pipeline. I would really appreciate it if you could pass information about opportunities within our team to your students and colleagues. An official description of the internship position can be found at https://www.uber.com/en-ES/careers/list/45369, but interested students should send a separate email (also in case they need more information) to m <adam.welc(a)uber.com>ilind(a)uber.com. Sincerely, Milind Chabbi
