Profit Date and Time: October 23rd, 2025, 2pm Location: 1100 Torgersen Speaker Bio: Dr. Srinidhi Varadarajan has more than two decades of experience architecting and building security products, virtualization platforms, advanced networks, high-performance computing environments, scalable file systems, and storage subsystems. He is currently the Co-Founder and Chief of Cyber Intelligence at Elastio. His industry career includes being Founder and CTO of Cloudistics (acquired by Fungible, Microsoft), Founder and CTO of AppAssure (acquired by Dell), Founder and CTO of Librato (acquired by SolarWinds), and the founder and chief architect of SilverDraft Supercomputing. He also served as VP and General Manager of the Data Protection business at Dell after the acquisition of AppAssure. Previously, Srinidhi was an Associate Professor of Computer Science and the founding Director of the Systems Center at Virginia Tech. Srinidhi is the architect of System X supercomputer at Virginia Tech (built-in collaboration with Apple) - ranked # 3 in the world in 2003. He received the NSF Career Award for Internet-scale network modeling and was honored by MIT Technology Review as one of the top 100 (TR100) young innovators transforming technology. He was also named by HPCWire as one of the top researchers in the field of supercomputing. Srinidhi received his Doctorate in Computer Science from Stony Brook, specializing in computer networks. Volunteers Needed: Vulnerable Status Attacks in Mixed Reality

Hello, The PrivateEye Group at Virginia Tech is recruiting participants for a Department of Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA)-funded research study on Mixed Reality (MR) systems (e.g., HoloLens, Magic Leap) supervised by Dr. Brendan David-John. Our goal is to evaluate strategies that mitigate attacks that exploit user vulnerabilities in MR systems. The study duration is up to 2 hours. In this study, we examine how gaze movements relate to moments of object selection and task performance in MR. The study is approved by a third-party IRB (Solutions), along with a reliance agreement from Virginia Tech. Eligibility: 18+ with no known hearing, speech, uncorrected vision, or motor/facial movement disorders. Time & compensation: One 120-minute session; receive $20 or volunteer hour credit. At this month’s Science on Tap, participants will use a dice-based game to see evolution in action — watching genetic changes accumulate over time. You'll then piece together how cancer evolves, using the same reasoning scientist's use to uncover cancer's evolutionary history. Good Afternoon, If you are a faculty/staff member or graduate student and have small children, The Little Hokie Hand-Me-Down<https://news.vt.edu/notices/2025/10/the-little-hokie-hand-me-down-will-be-o…> is scheduled for November 11 and 12. The Hand-Me-Down offers students and staff members with children ages 0-10 the opportunity to "shop" for a wide range of children's clothes and other items they may need, free of charge. The event takes place in the multi-purpose room of the Graduate Life Center. If you have items for donation, they are being excepted now through 5:00pm on November 10, you can drop off donated items at the Women's Center (206 Washington Street) or at the front desk of the Graduate Life Center. Organizers have also created an Amazon wish list for people who wish to purchase items for donation.
